Pune Traffic Alert: Road Closures and Heavy Vehicle Ban During Ganeshotsav 2025

Pune, 31st August 2025: To manage traffic congestion during the final week of Ganeshotsav, Pune traffic authorities have announced temporary road closures and heavy vehicle restrictions across the city. The measures, aimed at easing traffic flow and minimizing inconvenience for motorists, will be in effect from August 31 to September 5.

According to the Pune Traffic Department, four major roads will be closed to traffic after 5 pm during the last seven days of the festival:

  • Lakshmi Road: Hamjekhan Chowk to Tilak Chowk
  • Shivaji Road: Gadgil Putla Chowk to Mandai area
  • Bajirao Road: Puram Chowk to Appa Balwant Chowk
  • Tilak Road: Hirabagh Chowk to Nehru Stadium area

Additionally, heavy vehicles have been completely banned on 12 roads, including Shastri Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, Laxmi Road, Kelkar Road, Bajirao Road, Shivaji Road, Karve Road, FC College Road, Junglee Maharaj Road, Sinhagad Road, and Ganesh Road.

The department has urged motorists to use alternative routes and plan travel accordingly during this period.

To complement the traffic restrictions, Pune Metro will operate on a revised schedule with extra services to reduce inconvenience for passengers. The PMPML buses have also been rerouted, with changes implemented on 66 bus routes across the city.

In addition to road closures, several areas have been designated as no-parking zones to ensure smooth vehicular movement. These include Subhedar Talim, Panghanti Chowk, Ganj Peth Chowk, Central Street, Jedhe Prasad Road, among others.

Complete no-parking has been enforced on the following stretches:

  • Shivaji Road: Jijamata Chowk to Mandai Chowk
  • Lakshmi Road: Mumbai Chowk to Shanipar Chowk
  • Bajirao Road: Shanipar Chowk to Phulkaburuj
  • Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Peth

Authorities have requested residents and commuters to cooperate and avoid parking or stopping on these roads during the festival to prevent traffic snarls and ensure a safe, smooth celebration for all.
