Double-Decker Electric Bus Trial Begins in Pune

Katraj, 16th September 2025: Pune is set to bring back the charm of double-decker buses with a modern electric twist. The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has begun the trial run of a fully air-conditioned, electric double-decker bus manufactured by Switch Mobility.

According to officials, the bus has a capacity of 85 passengers, including 60 seated and 25 standing. Measuring 9.5 meters in length, 2.6 meters in width, and 4.75 meters in height, the vehicle is designed to provide comfort and efficiency on city routes.

The bus, priced at around Rs 2 crore, is equipped with advanced electric technology and is expected to reduce carbon emissions while offering a premium commuting experience. In the first phase, PMPML plans to induct 10 such buses into its fleet.

The trial run of the bus will continue for the next eight to fifteen days, after which a detailed assessment will be carried out before introducing it for regular passenger service starting with Hinjawadi, Kharadi and Magarpatta areas.
