Pune, 22nd September 2025: In response to Pune Municipal Corporation’s order imposing a fine of Rs 15 lakh for illegal dumping of construction waste near Balewadi High Street, Pune Metro Line 3 has issued a clarification denying the charges against its contractor, Tata Projects Ltd. (TPL).

The metro officials said that while PMC is accusing the metro contractor of dumping debris, video evidence shows that one of the trucks belongs to PMC itself.

According to the statement, the Station In-Charge of PMR-13 has confirmed that all materials from the site’s Left-Hand Side (E/E) have been duly disposed of at designated facilities, and none were deposited on the adjacent land. The clarification further points to video evidence, which shows that vehicles not belonging to TPL were involved in dumping activities around the location, possibly leading to the misunderstanding.

Metro officials emphasized that the project follows strict waste disposal and environmental management practices in line with PMC and PMRDA norms. They added that construction on the 23.33 km Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar corridor, which includes 23 stations, is progressing rapidly and will provide a vital connection between the city centre and the IT hub.

Reiterating their commitment, Pune Metro Line 3 assured that it remains focused on ensuring responsible construction, transparency, and sustainable development while delivering one of Pune’s most important urban transport projects.

Omprakash Divate, Additional Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), said, “During the ongoing Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro work, the Assistant Commissioner of the Aundh–Baner Ward Office noticed the dumping activity. After a thorough inspection, the dumper’s number was recorded and punitive action was taken. A fine of Rs 15 lakh has been imposed on Tata Projects Ltd, the company executing the metro work.”

The Pune Metro line III is a ~23 Km elevated Metro rail project connecting the IT hub of Hinjawadi to the Central business district of Shivajinagar. It is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project awarded by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to a consortium consisting of Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH. The Project would be developed & operated on Design, build, finance, operate & transfer (DBFOT) basis by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) for a Concession Period of 35 years including the construction period.
