43 Accused Under Zone 1 Jailed Ahead of Navratri to Ensure Law and Order

Pune, 22nd September 2025: To ensure peaceful celebrations during Navratri and upcoming festivals, Pune City Police have launched a special drive against criminals with serious records. Acting on the directions of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, strict preventive action has been taken under the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

“Preventive action has been taken against 43 accused involved in serious offences, many of whom are organised gang members. They have been sent to Yerwada Central Jail to ensure citizens can celebrate festivals without fear,” DCP (Zone 1) Krushikesh Rawale told Punekar News.

The crackdown covers offences such as murder, attempt to murder, extortion, robbery, liquor prohibition violations, drug peddling, and activities of organised gangs. Police said the action was aimed at maintaining law and order during Navratri festivities, including public gatherings, Garba, religious events, and the Ravana Dahan program.

In Zone-1, which covers Khadak, Samarth, Faraskhana, Vishrambaug, Shivajinagar, and Deccan police stations, a total of 43 accused released on bail in serious cases were taken into preventive custody and lodged in Yerwada Central Jail. This includes 11 from Khadak, 8 from Samarth, 3 from Faraskhana, 7 from Vishrambaug, 3 from Shivajinagar, and 11 from Deccan police stations.
