Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th September 2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, along with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), have initiated a crackdown on buses, vans, and rickshaws illegally and dangerously transporting schoolchildren. Under the special drive, 327 vehicles were inspected, and action was taken against 205 of them. Authorities collected fines amounting to ₹7,69,750 from the violators.

In Pimpri-Chinchwad, many students rely on buses, eco-vans, and rickshaws for their daily commute. However, during inspections, officials found several vehicles carrying students beyond their permitted capacity and failing to comply with safety guidelines. Some drivers were found operating recklessly, putting children’s lives at risk. Concerned citizens had earlier lodged complaints with the police and RTO about such unsafe practices.

Responding to the complaints, four flying squads from the traffic police and RTO conducted checks across Pimpri, Bhosari, Chakan, Wakad, Nigdi, and Hinjewadi. Of the 327 vehicles examined—170 buses and 157 vans/rickshaws—violations were found in 70 buses and 128 vans/rickshaws.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vivek Patil confirmed that penal action was taken and fines totaling ₹7,69,750 were imposed on the offending drivers.
