Pune Tops Participation in MSEDCL’s Paperless Billing Drive
Mumbai, 6th October 2025: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL or Mahavitaran)’s environment-friendly ‘Go-Green’ scheme, which encourages customers to opt for digital electricity bills instead of printed ones, is witnessing a surge in participation across the state. In the last three months alone, 2,03,340 electricity consumers have joined the initiative.
The scheme aims to eliminate paper usage for electricity bills by sending them exclusively through email and SMS. As of October 6, a total of 7,06,924 environmentally conscious consumers in the low-tension (LT) category have enrolled, collectively saving Rs 8.48 crore annually through incentives offered under the program.
Mahavitaran’s Managing Director Lokesh Chandra welcomed the increasing response, saying, “The growing participation of electricity consumers in the Go-Green scheme is commendable. Bills are now being sent in digital form, and we urge more consumers to join this initiative to contribute to environmental conservation.”
Among regional divisions, Pune has recorded the highest participation, with 87,040 customers, followed by the Konkan region with 78,829. In terms of annual savings, Pune leads with Rs 3.46 crore, while the Konkan region follows with Rs 3.15 crore. The Nagpur division reported 84,531 participants (Rs 1.01 crore benefit), and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has 71,918 participants, saving Rs 86.3 lakh annually.
Under the scheme, customers receive a discount of Rs 10 per month, amounting to Rs 120 annually. The benefit is credited as a lump sum of Rs 120 in the first electricity bill after enrollment, covering the next 12 months.
Consumers can register for the scheme through Mahavitaran’s official website (www.mahadiscom.in) or mobile app by submitting their customer number. Once enrolled, printed bills are discontinued, and digital bills are sent directly to the registered mobile number and email ID. Customers can also update their contact details on the same platform.
In addition to environmental benefits, Go-Green participants enjoy easier online bill payments and a one percent discount if bills are paid within seven days of issuance. The digital bills can be saved, downloaded, or printed in color whenever required.
With the rising participation, MSEDCL’s Go-Green scheme is emerging as a significant step toward sustainable utility management, combining digital transformation with eco-friendly practices across Maharashtra.
