Pune, 15th December 2025: Over ₹659 crore remains unclaimed in banks across Pune district, including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, as more than 13.23 lakh bank accounts have remained inactive for over 10 years, officials said.

The inactive accounts include savings, current and fixed deposit accounts held with cooperative, nationalised and private banks. As per banking regulations, deposits in such long-dormant accounts are transferred to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund.

Bank officials clarified that the funds remain safe and can still be claimed by account holders or their legal heirs by approaching the respective banks with valid documents and proof of succession. Claims can be submitted until December 31.

To assist citizens in tracing forgotten or inactive accounts, the RBI has made details available through its UDGAM portal. District lead bank officials have urged residents to check old accounts and ensure that the rightful owners or their heirs recover the unclaimed amounts.
