Ahilyanagar, 4th January 2026: Shrirampur police have arrested two more accused in the daylight murder of Aslam Shabbir Jahagirdar alias Bunty Jahagirdar (53), taking the total number of arrests in the case to four. Police also informed the court that foreign-made firearms and live ammunition linked to the crime have been recovered.

The latest arrests include Sandesh Sanjay Rokade (21) and Mayur Subhash Wavdhane (25), residents of Siddharthanagar. Both were taken into custody on January 4 and produced before a local magistrate. Investigators said the two allegedly played a supporting role in the murder.

Earlier, police had arrested the alleged shooters, Krushna Arun Shingare (23) and Ravi Gautam Nikalje (25), on January 1. According to the investigation, Jahagirdar was shot while returning home after visiting a graveyard to pay respects to a relative. The assailants reportedly carried out the attack while riding a motorcycle and fled the scene immediately after.

Police told the court that Rokade and Wavdhane were in regular contact with the shooters before and after the incident. Call detail records indicate frequent communication on the day of the murder, suggesting that information about Jahagirdar’s movements may have been shared. A mobile phone belonging to another individual, Manoj Sable, was also recovered from Wavdhane and is being examined to determine whether more people were involved in the alleged conspiracy.

During the course of the probe, police seized two foreign-made pistols along with two live cartridges. One of the weapons reportedly bears markings indicating it was manufactured in the United States.

Investigators have sought four days of police custody to trace the source of the firearms and to establish the precise role of each accused.

In his statement to the police, the victim’s cousin, Rais Abdulgani Shaikh (42), a municipal councillor, alleged that an organised crime group led by brothers Chanya Beg, Sonya Beg and Tipya Beg has been operating in the Shrirampur area for several years. He claimed the group has a history of serious criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, robbery and sexual assault.

Police are also examining whether Jahagirdar’s political influence was a motive behind the killing. Investigators noted that Jahagirdar had been active in local politics for nearly two decades. Shaikh alleged that tensions increased after Chanya Beg, who narrowly lost the 2024 Assembly elections, allegedly issued threats against Jahagirdar. The probe is also looking into a possible link between the murder and Jahagirdar’s support for Karan Sasane, the recently elected president of the Shrirampur Municipal Council.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Police said further investigation is underway to identify all those involved and to establish the full scope of the conspiracy.
