Pune Traffic Police Launches Drive Against Pending E-Challans, Warns of License Suspension

Pune, 25th February 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police has issued an official notice urging vehicle owners to clear their pending traffic fines (e-challans) within 30 days of receiving an official intimation.
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil said, “Failure to pay the fines within the stipulated timeframe will result in strict legal action, including the potential suspension of driving licenses or court proceedings.”
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), the drive aims to encourage adherence to traffic rules, ensure transparent collection of pending fines, and strengthen overall traffic discipline in Pune.
Notice Delivery and Timeline
The traffic police will notify vehicle owners about their pending dues via SMS on their registered mobile numbers.
Official Sender ID: The SMS will be sent exclusively from the authorized short code MHPECH-G.
Specific Dates: To prevent confusion and fraud, these notices will be dispatched only between February 26, 2026, and March 1, 2026.
Citizens are strictly warned to consider any message demanding traffic fines outside of this four-day window, or from any other sender name, as suspicious.
Consequences of Non-Payment
If a vehicle owner fails to pay the fine within 30 days of receiving the notice, the police will initiate legal action, which includes:
Sending a proposal to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to suspend the violator’s driving license.
Filing a formal case regarding the unpaid challan in court.
Authorized Payment Channels
To ensure secure transactions, the traffic department has requested citizens to use only the following official channels to pay their fines:

Mobile App: Pune Traffic Police App (PTP App)
In-Person: By visiting the nearest traffic division office and paying via QR Code, Debit Card, or Credit Card on the official e-challan machines.
Advisory Against Cyber Fraud
In light of rising cybercrimes targeting citizens under the guise of traffic challans, the police issued crucial safety guidelines:
The Traffic Police will never send any APK files to download.
Citizens must never share their OTPs with anyone.
Payments must only be made using the official methods mentioned in the notice.
If citizens receive any suspicious links or phone calls, they should immediately contact their nearest police station.
DCP Himmat Jadhav has appealed to all Punekars to cooperate with this initiative and clear their pending fines within the designated deadline to avoid legal complications.
