Pune Emerges as AI Jobs Hub; Business, Finance Roles Also Rise
Pune, 1st March 2026: Rapid technological change is reshaping the job market in Pune, with artificial intelligence roles emerging as the fastest-growing employment segment this year, according to a new employment growth report released by LinkedIn. The findings highlight how the city’s evolution into a technology and innovation hub is driving strong demand for AI engineers, even as many job seekers struggle to keep pace with changing skill requirements.
The LinkedIn Employment Growth Report 2026 is based on a survey of 19,113 respondents conducted in November 2025. The study covered full-time and part-time employees as well as unemployed individuals aged between 18 and 79 years. At the national level, 72 percent of respondents said they are actively looking for new job opportunities. However, 38 percent cited rapid technological change as a major challenge, while 37 percent expressed uncertainty about their ability to remain competitive in the job market. The report also notes that nearly one-third of candidates in India are not adequately prepared to meet the challenges posed by evolving technologies.
Pune stands out as one of the cities benefiting most from this shift. With its expanding ecosystem of established industries and innovation-driven enterprises, the city has recorded the highest growth in AI engineering jobs. Business development general managers rank second among fast-growing roles, followed by underwriters who assess financial risk. Marketing consultants and legal advisors occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively. Overall, the report points to rising employment across business development, financial services, marketing, legal services and management functions.
AI is also playing a significant role in how candidates search for jobs. The survey found that 94 percent of working professionals in India are using AI tools during their job hunt. Despite this high adoption, 48 percent of respondents admitted they are unsure where they stand in terms of AI skills. More than half, or 54 percent, believe that AI could become a barrier during the hiring process. At the same time, 65 percent feel that AI can improve communication and efficiency in recruitment. Globally, around 1.3 million LinkedIn members use AI tools every day, primarily for job searches.
Speaking on the findings, LinkedIn India’s senior managing editor Nirajita Banerjee said Pune’s employment landscape is being shaped by a mix of traditional industries and innovation-led sectors. This combination is creating opportunities for a wide range of skilled professionals. Candidates who are able to combine their core expertise with AI capabilities are increasingly being preferred, she noted. Beyond technology, job growth is also being seen in manufacturing, finance and consulting services.
