Arunachal Pradesh Edges Out Manipur to Claim the 2nd AMAND Football Cup 2026 in Pune
Pune, 4th March 2026: Arunachal Pradesh emerged as the champions of the 2nd Season of the AMAND Football Cup 2026, defeating Manipur by a thrilling one-goal margin in a closely contested final. The 11-a-side state-level tournament, organized by the Association of Manipuri Diaspora (AMAND), took place on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Spicer Adventist University (SAU) Football Ground in Pune.
The sporting event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various state teams, showcasing high-quality football and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the day. Dr. Milon Rana, Vice Chancellor of SAU, graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest and officially kicked off the tournament.
After a series of intense and competitive encounters, the Arunachal Pradesh Team (A) claimed the top honors. The Winner’s Trophy, sponsored by the family of Late Hony. Capt. (L) N.K. Singh, was presented to the champions by Smt. N. Birohini Devi. The Manipur Team (A) took home the Runner-up Trophy, which was awarded by Prof. A.S. Varekan, Registrar of SAU and Chief Guest of the closing ceremony.
The tournament also recognized outstanding individual and team performances, with special awards and cash prizes generously supported by former AMAND Presidents and well-wishers. The individual and team honors included:
Best Player: Mr. Lama (Arunachal Team)
Golden Boot: Mr. Nokphao Konyak (Arunachal Team)
Best Goalkeeper: Mr. Brukson (Manipur Team)
Promising Player: Mr. Phur Tshering Bhutia (Manipur Team)
Best Disciplined Team: Manipur Jadonang FC
As a token of appreciation, all participating teams were honored with mementos in recognition of their sportsmanship. AMAND General Secretary Suresh Chingtham noted that the successful completion of the tournament reflects the growing stature of the AMAND Football Cup. He emphasized that the event stands as a proud symbol of unity, brotherhood, cultural pride, and youth empowerment within the community and beyond.
