New Delhi, 10th March 2026: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday unveiled a strategic vision document titled “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military” at an event held in South Block in the national capital.

The document, prepared by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, outlines a long-term strategy aimed at transforming India’s armed forces into a modern, technologically advanced and fully integrated military by the year 2047, when the country marks 100 years of independence.

According to officials, the roadmap sets out key reforms, capability upgrades and structural changes required for the armed forces to effectively respond to evolving security challenges, emerging technologies and changing geopolitical dynamics. The plan aims to build a force that can operate seamlessly across multiple domains and respond to a wide range of conflict scenarios while safeguarding India’s growing strategic interests.

A major component of the vision focuses on strengthening coordination among the Army, Navy and Air Force. The document emphasises improved joint planning, integrated operations and collaborative capability development to enhance overall combat readiness.

The roadmap also highlights the growing role of advanced technologies, innovation and modern training systems in preparing the military for future warfare. Officials said these measures are intended to ensure that India’s defence forces remain adaptable and capable of responding to complex and rapidly changing security environments.

Another key priority outlined in the document is promoting self-reliance in defence. The strategy calls for increased development and use of indigenous technologies and equipment suited to India’s specific security needs. Strengthening domestic defence manufacturing and technological capabilities is expected to improve operational preparedness while supporting national economic growth.

The vision plan includes a phased approach with clearly defined objectives for the short, medium and long term. These milestones will guide the development of military capabilities, institutional reforms and strategic collaborations needed to build a globally competitive defence force.

Officials also stressed the importance of a whole-of-nation approach to national security, combining military capability with diplomatic, technological and economic strengths. The goal is to ensure that by 2047, India’s armed forces emerge as a globally respected, technologically advanced and combat-ready institution contributing to the country’s goal of becoming a developed nation.

The event was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, along with other senior officials.
