Pune: PMC’s ‘Road Mitra’ App to Report Potholes Stops Working Within Six Months of Launch
Pune, 13th March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Road Mitra mobile application, launched to enable citizens to report potholes and damaged roads directly to the civic body, has stopped functioning within just six months of its launch.
The application was introduced after the state government criticised the civic administration during last year’s monsoon over the poor condition of roads in the city. The civic body had launched the app to allow citizens to upload photos or videos of potholes, which would then be directly forwarded to the road department for action.
However, the app is currently non-functional. Surprisingly, officials from PMC’s Information and Technology Department as well as the Road Department were unaware that the application had stopped working.
PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram had unveiled the application on August 12, 2025. At the time, the administration had claimed that potholes reported through the app would be repaired within 72 hours. The responsibility for repairs was to be fixed on the concerned sub-engineer, and after the work was completed, before-and-after photographs were to be uploaded on the app before the complaint was closed.
A dashboard had also been created to monitor complaints received from different areas and track how quickly they were resolved, with the aim of ensuring accountability among officials.
After the Assembly elections in the state, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced a 150-day reform programme for municipal corporations to improve administrative efficiency. PMC had informed the state government that it had introduced several digital services, including the PMC Road Mitra app, PMC Care 2.0 and a chatbot. The civic body had also been recognised at the state level for its administrative reforms.
However, several of these services are now non-functional, raising questions about whether such initiatives were launched only to meet the targets of the reform programme.
Commenting on the issue, Ram said the administration has been informed about the problem and instructions have been given to the concerned departments to restore the app.
“The app being non-functional has come to our notice. The concerned departments have been instructed to make it operational at the earliest,” he said.
