‘Gas Surcharge’ Row: Wanowrie Hotel Under Scrutiny Over Extra Charge on Bill
Wanowrie, 18th March 2026: A billing dispute at a hotel in Wanowrie has sparked an online debate after a customer highlighted an additional “gas surcharge” on his food bill, raising questions about transparency in pricing practices followed by eateries.
The controversy surfaced when a social media post by Nitin Jagtap detailed his dining experience, claiming that his total bill of around ₹1,110 included an extra ₹100 charged under the head “gas surcharge.”
As per the post, when he sought clarification, the hotel staff reportedly explained that the charge was introduced due to challenges in procuring LPG cylinders and increasing operational expenses.
The issue quickly gained traction on social media, with many users expressing concern over whether such charges are permissible and if customers should be informed in advance before being billed extra.
The development has once again brought focus to billing norms in the hospitality sector, particularly the need for clear communication and compliance with consumer protection guidelines.
Punekar News attempted to reach the travel agency for a response, but despite repeated efforts, no reply was received.
So far, there has been no official statement from authorities regarding the matter, leaving open the possibility of further scrutiny or regulatory action if complaints are formally pursued.
