Nashik, 20th March 2026: In a significant step towards ensuring a clean and sustainable Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) will organise a large-scale cleanliness drive at Brahmagiri Hill in Trimbakeshwar on March 22, marking World Water Day. The initiative, titled ‘Clean Brahmagiri Drive’, aims to mobilise citizens, institutions, and volunteers to protect the sanctity of the origin of the Godavari river while promoting responsible environmental practices.

Brahmagiri Hill, a site of immense religious and ecological importance, witnesses heavy footfall from pilgrims and trekkers. With the Kumbh Mela approaching, authorities are focusing on proactive measures to manage waste, reduce plastic use, and instil a sense of collective responsibility among visitors.

The drive will be conducted between 7 am and 11 am and will see participation from Akharas, Purohit Sangh, NTKMA officials, colleges, NSS volunteers, trekking groups, social organisations, influencers, local citizens, and government agencies including the forest department and Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council.

A key highlight of the initiative is the ‘Pass the Waste’ Clean Trail Challenge, where participants will collect litter along trekking routes and symbolically pass waste bags to reinforce shared responsibility. A structured plogathon walk will also be organised, combining trekking with waste collection, with a focus on removing plastic and non-biodegradable waste from the hill area. Collected waste will be scientifically segregated into wet, dry, and hazardous categories before being handed over to municipal teams for disposal.

To amplify outreach, participants will document the effort through ‘before-and-after’ videos under the #PlogForBrahmagiri and #CleanKumbh2027 campaigns, encouraging wider public engagement and awareness on sustainable practices.

NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh said, “Brahmagiri is a sacred and ecological asset that demands our collective responsibility. Through this initiative, we aim to create a people’s movement for cleanliness in the run-up to Kumbh 2027. Every citizen, pilgrim, and visitor has a role to play in preserving the purity of this holy landscape. Clean Kumbh is not an event goal, it is a behavioural shift we must achieve together.”
