IMD Forecast: Thunderstorms and Hail Likely in Pune till April 4th, Heat to Follow
Pune, 2nd April 2026: Pune and its surrounding localities are set for a week of volatile weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a warning for thunderstorms, hail, and lightning over the next 48 to 72 hours, followed by a steady rise in temperatures reaching up to 41°C in parts of the district by early next week.
The local weather forecast issued on Thursday (April 2nd, 2026) indicates that Pune, Pashan, Lohgaon, and Chinchwad will likely experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging between 30 to 40 kmph today. The IMD has also warned of possible hail and light to moderate rain in these areas. This unsettled weather is expected to persist through April 3rd and 4th, with “thunderstorms with lightning and light rain” highly likely in the afternoons or evenings.

As the unseasonal rain subsides from April 5th onwards, the city will transition into a heatwave-like phase. While Pune city is expected to see a maximum temperature of 38°C by April 8th, neighboring Lohegaon is forecasted to hit a scorching 41°C. Other areas like Chinchwad and Magarpatta are also expected to see mercury levels hovering between 39°C and 41°C during the same period.
Weather Trends Across Vidarbha
Beyond Pune, the IMD has also issued warnings for the Vidarbha region. On April 2nd, several districts including Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, and Akola were marked for “Rain or Thundershowers with strong gusty winds.”
Amravati recorded the highest temperature in the region at 41°C today, while Wardha and Akola followed closely at 40°C. Nagpur recorded a maximum of 39°C. The forecast for Vidarbha suggests a brief respite from the extreme heat over the next few days as intermittent rain and cloud cover bring temperatures down slightly to the 37°C–38°C range by April 8th.
