Kalyani Nagar, 5th April 2026: A controversy has surfaced in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar after a group of customers alleged that they were mistakenly served non-vegetarian food despite clearly ordering vegetarian dishes at a popular café, Coffee Nation.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on the night of February 5 when a group of seven to eight individuals visited the café for dinner. The customers, who identify as strict vegetarians, claimed they had specifically ordered vegetarian items, including a paneer peri-peri sandwich.

However, they later alleged that they were served a chicken peri-peri sandwich instead. The group stated that they realised the mix-up only after finishing their meal and checking the bill, which led to distress and allegations that their religious sentiments had been hurt.

The issue escalated after the customers issued a legal notice accusing the café of negligence and deficiency in service, while seeking compensation and action against the establishment.

Responding to the incident, Coffee Nation acknowledged the mistake but maintained that it was unintentional.

“We have taken the necessary steps regarding the incident and have already apologised. It was purely a human error and nothing else. Our legal team is also handling the matter,” a representative of Coffee Nation said.

The café also stated that corrective measures have been implemented internally to prevent such incidents in the future, particularly while handling orders involving dietary and religious preferences.

While the complainants have demanded strict legal action and compensation, the café has emphasised that the matter is being addressed through appropriate legal channels.
