Mumbai, 9th April 2026: Stand-up comedian Samay Raina makes a comeback to showbiz with his debut stand-up special ‘Still Alive’, after facing severe backlash from the internet, citizens across India, and even the government, following the controversy surrounding his show ‘India’s Got Latent’. The outrage was rooted in the inappropriate comments made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as ‘BeerBiceps’, which eventually escalated into a nationwide issue.

The special entails Raina going down memory lane, elaborating on the backdrop of the controversy, with detailed anecdotes from the day the episode was shot, the way it was edited, and the unforeseen aftermath that followed. He also highlights how moments that seemed insignificant at the time ended up becoming the focal point of the backlash, adding a layer of unpredictability to the entire situation.

This is paired with the comedian sharing stories from his childhood, including the experiences of his parents as Kashmiri Pandits residing in Kashmir, and his own journey of growing up as an outcast in Andhra Pradesh. These moments are intertwined with reflections on his mental health, which have been positioned alongside his experience of dealing with the recent crisis, giving the special a more personal and layered narrative.

The show is centred around the range of emotions experienced by the artist as the controversy unfolded, from receiving death threats to maintaining composure during his sold-out shows in the United States at the time. He recalls seeking advice from people within the industry to navigate the situation, including Tanmay Bhat, who advised him to lie low and allow the media cycle to eventually move on.

From having multiple FIRs filed against him to the Assam Police reaching his old accommodation from his student days in Pune, Raina takes the audience along as he narrates what a stressful and threatening phase of his life was. Despite the seriousness of these incidents, he manages to present them in a manner that blends humour with emotional depth.

‘Still Alive’ ultimately stands as a humorous yet emotionally-driven special, where Raina not only revisits one of the most difficult periods of his life but also attempts to make sense of it through his craft, offering audiences a performance that is as reflective as it is engaging.
