229 Drunk Drivers Caught in Pune as Traffic Police Intensify Checks
Pune, 14th April 2026: In a bid to curb rising cases of drunk driving, the city traffic police have intensified special enforcement drives every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, booking 229 motorists for driving under the influence.
All offenders were called for a counselling session at the Yerawada Traffic Division on Monday (April 13), where they were educated about the dangers and legal consequences of drunk driving.
As part of the drive, police conducted naka bandi at multiple locations across the city. On April 10, action was taken against 31 drivers at five checkpoints in the Koregaon Park area. Similarly, on April 12, 10 drivers were booked during checks at four locations near the airport. Overall, 229 violators were penalised across different parts of Pune.
During the counselling sessions, officials highlighted the risks of accidents, loss of life, and the legal repercussions associated with drunk driving.

Jadhav urged citizens to act responsibly, stating that driving under the influence endangers not only the driver but also others on the road. He appealed to motorists to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid driving after consuming alcohol.
