Pune, 15th April 2026: The yard remodelling project at Pune Railway Station has officially commenced, marking a major infrastructure expansion with construction of new platforms and dismantling of tracks in the goods shed area.
According to railway officials, the project includes the construction of Platforms 11 and 12, each planned to be 600 metres long and 13 metres wide. These platforms are expected to have new entry and exit points, likely from the Sangam Park Railway Colony side and Raja Bahadur Motilal Road. A proposed skywalk will connect existing Platforms 1 to 6 with the newly developed sections to enable smoother passenger movement.
The project encompasses several sanctioned works totaling an estimated ₹141.72 crore. In addition to Platforms 11 and 12, the project includes the construction of new island platforms 7 and 8 (650 metres long and 10 metres wide) and Platforms 9 and 10 (750 metres long and 12 metres wide).
To strengthen connectivity within the station, a 425-metre-long and 6-metre-wide skywalk is planned to link Platform 1 with Platforms 7 and 8. A 180-metre foot overbridge (FOB) will connect the new RRI building to Raja Bahadur Motilal Road, while another 125-metre FOB will link Platforms 9 to 12 with the main circulating area.
Passenger amenities form a key component of the expansion. The new platforms will be equipped with cover-over-platforms, toilet blocks and water stands. The project also includes installation of four lifts and four escalators to improve accessibility across Platforms 9 to 12 and adjoining areas.
Technical upgrades are also part of the sanctioned works, including installation of telecom systems such as coach and train indicator boards and outdoor video display systems for passenger information.
Alongside new construction, several upgrades to existing infrastructure are being carried out. These include granite and Kota stone slab flooring for Platforms 1 to 6 and Platform 10, repairs to toilet blocks, improvements to drainage systems, and renovation of water stands and seating arrangements.
Track dismantling in the goods shed area is currently in progress to clear space for new platform structures and associated facilities. The project also provides for additional booking offices, waiting rooms and enhanced lighting systems across the station.
Railway PRO Hemant Kumar Behera said the yard remodelling is a significant step toward improving passenger handling capacity and overall station efficiency. “The addition of new platforms along with dedicated entry and exit points will help in reducing congestion and ensuring smoother movement of passengers. Facilities such as lifts, escalators, improved foot overbridges, and modern information systems are being incorporated to enhance accessibility and convenience. The remodelling will also streamline train operations, allowing better platform allocation and reducing delays,” he said.
He added that the integration of upgraded amenities and improved connectivity infrastructure is aimed at providing a more organized and efficient travel experience for passengers using the station.
