Pune, 20th April 2026: Passengers from Hadapsar and nearby areas are set to gain a new direct rail connection to North India, with railway officials confirming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Hadapsar–Banaras Amrit Bharat Express on April 24 from Banaras (Varanasi).

The Ministry of Railways has approved the introduction of this new train service connecting Hadapsar in Pune to Varanasi, providing a direct rail link for passengers travelling to North India. The approval was conveyed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following a proposal supported by Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol.

According to officials, the train will originate from Hadapsar terminal, aimed at reducing congestion at Pune Railway Station while improving connectivity for passengers from eastern parts of the city and nearby regions. The service is expected to cater to a significant number of passengers travelling to Varanasi and Prayagraj.

The Amrit Bharat Express is a non-AC push-pull train designed for efficient long-distance travel. It operates with locomotives at both ends, enabling faster acceleration and smoother braking. The train will run at high speeds on permitted routes and is equipped with semi-permanent couplers to ensure reduced jerks during travel.

The train will have 22 coaches, including sleeper and general class compartments, along with luggage-cum-guard vans designed to be accessible for Divyangjan passengers. Safety features include CCTV surveillance, fire detection systems, and improved crash protection mechanisms.

Railway officials stated that the detailed schedule, stoppages, and booking information for the Hadapsar–Varanasi Amrit Bharat Express will be announced shortly.
