No More Afternoon Outages in Pune : MSEDCL Acts Amid Rising Temperatures, Fixes 7 am–11 am Window For Maintenance Works
Pune, 25th April 25, 2026: In a bid to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the summer peak demand season and the upcoming monsoon, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has accelerated preventive maintenance and repair works across its network. However, to minimise inconvenience to consumers amid rising temperatures, the utility has now directed all regional offices to carry out scheduled shutdown works only between 7 am and 11 am from now on.
The directive was issued by MSEDCL headquarters on Saturday after complaints over prolonged daytime outages caused by maintenance activities. Until now, many planned shutdowns for repairs were being carried out between 10 am and 2 pm or even up to 4 pm, causing hardship to residents during the hottest part of the day.
Officials said the revised schedule aims to reduce public inconvenience while allowing pre-monsoon preparedness works to continue. Regional offices have also been instructed to prioritise providing alternative power supply arrangements wherever possible during maintenance periods.
MSEDCL said consumers must be informed in advance about planned shutdowns through SMS alerts sent to registered mobile numbers as well as through local publicity channels.
The ongoing pre-monsoon maintenance drive is focused on strengthening the power network before heavy rains arrive. Key works include trimming tree branches touching power lines, replacing damaged pins and disc insulators, checking earthing systems of transformers, feeder pillars and ring main units, oil filtration and topping up transformer oil, repairing distribution boxes, replacing faulty lightning arresters, and reinforcing poles and conductors.
Other measures include removing sagging wires, replacing rusted or damaged poles, changing old cables, cleaning feeder pillars, applying insulation spray where required, installing guarding on high and low tension lines, repairing breakers at substations, battery charging, maintenance of power transformers, and ensuring backup supply systems are ready.
Officials said most of the annual maintenance works are usually completed by the end of May, ahead of the monsoon season.
