Pune: Bhor’s Historic Kambreshwar Temple Emerges From Bhatghar Dam Waters, Tourists Flock To Site
Bhor, 29th May 2026: The historic Kambreshwar Temple located in Kambare village of Bhor taluka has re-emerged from the waters of the British-era Bhatghar Dam as the water storage level in the reservoir has declined. The rare sight of the centuries-old temple has started attracting devotees and tourists eager to witness its beauty and the scenic views of the Velvandi river basin during sunrise and sunset.
Situated around 35 kilometres from Bhor town in the Bhatghar Dam region, the temple remains submerged under water for nearly eight months every year after the dam’s water level rises during the monsoon. The temple usually becomes visible again in May when the reservoir water recedes.
Following the temple’s reappearance, villagers and the gram panchayat carried out a cleaning drive and organised traditional religious rituals before reopening the temple for devotees.
Kambare Sarpanch Manisha Ombale appealed to visitors to maintain the sanctity of the temple premises and avoid unruly behaviour.
“Devotees and tourists visiting the Kambreshwar Temple should preserve the holiness of the place. Youngsters should avoid hooliganism and respect the local culture. Stones have been placed along both sides of the road to ensure devotees do not face difficulty while walking,” she said.
The route leading to the temple has also become an attraction for visitors. Seasonal fruits such as mangoes, karvanda and jamun are available along the way, while tourists can also enjoy fresh coconut sprout delicacies. Local elderly women are serving traditional vegetarian rural-style meals to visitors.
Walking nearly one kilometre through the soft mud of the dam basin has become a unique experience for tourists visiting the submerged temple site.
