Bengaluru, 2nd July 2026: A child abuse case has come to light at a day-care centre operating inside the HAL campus of IT major Capgemini in Bengaluru after disturbing videos allegedly showing staff mistreating a toddler went viral on social media.

The videos, which reportedly surfaced on June 29, appear to show a child, believed to be between two and three years old, being subjected to abusive treatment by female caregivers at the facility.

In one of the clips, the child is seen locked inside a toilet, lying on the floor and crying inconsolably while a staff member records the incident on a mobile phone. Another video allegedly shows a caregiver placing the child on a toilet seat and spraying water onto the child’s face using a jet spray. A separate clip appears to show the child sitting inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine while being frightened, causing the child to cry.

Following the circulation of the videos and verification of the facility’s identity, Bengaluru Police registered a case against five women employed as caregivers at the day-care centre. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether other children were also subjected to similar treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Saidulu Adavath said the children enrolled at the facility belonged to employees working at the Capgemini campus, where parents left them during office hours. He described the alleged behaviour seen in the videos as extremely serious and said both parents and officials were shocked after the footage emerged.

Police are also investigating whether the day-care centre was operated directly by Capgemini or managed by an external agency functioning within the company’s premises. The five caregivers are being questioned, and no arrests had been made at the time of reporting.

The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken cognisance of the matter and is expected to seek a report from the authorities while conducting its own inquiry.

In a statement, Capgemini said the safety and well-being of its employees and their families remain its highest priority. The company said it is fully cooperating with the investigating agencies and, as a precautionary measure, has temporarily closed the on-campus day-care centre in Bengaluru pending the investigation.

Capgemini, headquartered in Paris, France, is one of the world’s leading IT services companies, offering software, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and consulting services. The company operates in more than 50 countries and employs around 350,000 people globally. In India, it has major offices in Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gurugram, Noida and Kolkata.

The investigation into the alleged abuse is ongoing, and authorities are expected to determine whether additional children were affected and whether further legal action is warranted.
