Pune Traffic Advisory: Avoid Non-Essential Travel Between 5 PM and 8 PM, Say Police
Pune, 3rd July 2026: With continuous rainfall disrupting traffic across the city, the Pune Traffic Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel during the evening peak hours, warning of severe congestion on several major roads.
According to data from the city’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), the average vehicle speed across Pune on Thursday (July 2) was 21.4 kmph. Traffic authorities expect the average speed to drop further to around 17 kmph during the evening rush between 5 pm and 8 pm due to persistent rain and increased vehicular movement.
The police have identified several key stretches that are likely to witness heavy traffic congestion. These include Tilak Road (Alka Chowk to Swargate), Shastri Road (Alka Chowk to Dandekar Bridge), Shivaji Road near Swargate, J.M. Road (Modern College to Khandoji Baba Chowk), F.C. Road (Goodluck Chowk to Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk), Karve Road-Paud Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Solapur Road, and Satara Road (Market Yard to Katraj Naka).
Slow-moving traffic is also expected around Pune Railway Station, Alankar Chowk, Council Hall Chowk, Wadia College Chowk, and the Bund Garden area.
The advisory also cautions motorists against parking vehicles at intersections, bus stops, flyovers, footpaths, or waterlogged locations, as such obstructions can worsen traffic conditions and hamper emergency response efforts.
The Traffic Police have appealed to motorists to avoid driving on the wrong side, refrain from lane cutting and sudden braking, and maintain lane discipline. Two-wheeler riders have been specifically advised not to stop under flyovers or on main carriageways to take shelter from the rain.
Commercial and goods vehicles have also been asked to avoid halting on major roads during peak traffic hours. The police have encouraged citizens to use public transport or opt for carpooling wherever possible and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure smoother traffic flow and safer commuting during the ongoing monsoon season.
