FDA Seizes Unlabelled Ghee, Namkeen Worth Over Rs 1.22 Lakh

Pune, 3rd July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized 390 kg of food products worth over ₹1.22 lakh, including unlabelled ghee and namkeen suspected to be adulterated, during inspections carried out under the ‘Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra’ campaign.

Acting under the guidance of Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the FDA’s Pune Division conducted a special inspection at M/s Devansh Milk and Milk Products, located at Shiv Parvati Angan, Bhalekar Nagar, Pimple Gurav, Pune. During the inspection, officials seized 230 kg of ghee valued at ₹90,500 after finding it to be unlabelled and suspected of adulteration.

Considering the seriousness of the violations and in the interest of protecting public health, the FDA suspended the food business licence of the establishment with immediate effect.

The inspection was carried out by Food Safety Officer S. G. Ghatol, along with S. S. Patwardhan and Akshay Shelke, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (Food) Vishwajit Shinde.

In a separate operation, the FDA’s Solapur office inspected M/s Sangeeta Food Products at Madde Vasti, Solapur. Officials seized 160 kg of namkeen worth ₹32,000 after detecting labelling deficiencies and suspecting adulteration.

The Solapur action was conducted by Food Safety Officer K. G. Deshmukh under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner (Food) Sahebrao Desai.

Joint Commissioner (Food) D. V. Bhogawade said the FDA will continue taking stringent action against businesses operating without valid licences or those involved in the production, processing or sale of substandard, adulterated or non-compliant food products.

He reiterated that the department remains committed to safeguarding public health through strict enforcement of food safety regulations.
