Six-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured After Pack of Stray Dogs Attacks Him in Wagholi
Pune, 3rd July 2026: A six-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs while playing outside his home in Pune’s Wagholi area on Friday morning. The incident, which occurred around 7 a.m. near Bhairavnath Temple on Bhawadi Road, has once again raised concerns over the increasing stray dog menace and public safety in the rapidly growing suburb.
The injured child has been identified as Naitik Shivnath Tupe. According to his family, Naitik was playing in front of his house when he crossed the road. Within moments, a pack of five to six stray dogs surrounded him and launched a sudden attack.
The dogs bit the child repeatedly, causing deep injuries to his neck, while he also suffered a head injury after falling to the ground during the attack. The incident created panic in the locality as the child cried for help while the dogs continued to attack him.
Several motorists and passers-by who witnessed the incident immediately rushed to the spot. They managed to chase the dogs away and rescue the child from their grip before informing his family. Naitik’s parents and grandparents reached the scene and immediately shifted him to Sassoon General Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
According to his father, doctors are expected to perform a minor surgical procedure due to the severity of the injuries sustained to his neck. Hospital authorities are closely monitoring his condition.
Expressing concern over the incident, Laxmi Tupe, the child’s grandmother, said the attack has left the family traumatised.
“Naitik suffered serious injuries to his neck and also sustained a head injury after falling during the attack. We immediately rushed him to Sassoon Hospital. The municipal corporation must take immediate steps to control the stray dog population. If action is not taken now, more children could become victims of similar attacks,” she said.
Residents of Wagholi say stray dogs are frequently seen roaming in groups across residential areas, posing a threat to pedestrians, children and senior citizens.
Local resident Pradeep Shivaji Satav urged the civic administration to act without delay.
“This is a very serious incident. Packs of stray dogs can be seen at several locations in Wagholi, and attacks like this can happen to anyone. The municipal corporation should immediately launch a drive to control the stray dog population and ensure the safety of residents,” he said.
The incident has once again brought the issue of stray dog management into focus. Residents have been demanding stronger measures, including sterilisation, vaccination and relocation of aggressive dogs, along with regular monitoring of areas where large packs are reported.
As of now, the Pune Municipal Corporation has not issued an official statement regarding the attack. Further updates are expected as the child’s treatment continues and civic authorities review the incident.
