PCMC Evacuates 1,880 Flood-Affected Residents to Relief Shelters; Food, Medical Aid and Basic Facilities Provided
Pimpri Chinchwad, 6th July 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has evacuated 1,880 residents from flood-affected areas to safer locations as incessant rainfall triggered flooding across parts of the city. The evacuation drive was carried out by the civic body’s emergency response teams until 12 noon on Monday.
PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi said the civic administration has established multiple relief shelters for displaced residents, where food, medical assistance, drinking water and other essential amenities are being provided. He added that the municipal Disaster Control Room is functioning round the clock to coordinate emergency response efforts.
With continuous rainfall over the past two days causing river water levels to rise, the civic administration shifted residents living along riverbanks to safer places as a precautionary measure to prevent any loss of life or property.
Reviewing the flood situation, Commissioner Dr. Suryawanshi directed officials to continuously monitor river water levels and issue advance warnings through public address systems whenever water levels approach the danger mark. He instructed the administration to ensure timely evacuation of vulnerable residents and take all necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents.
Medical teams have also been deployed at all relief centres to conduct health check-ups and provide primary treatment to flood-affected residents. Officials have been instructed to ensure there is no shortage of food, drinking water or other essential facilities at the shelters.
The Commissioner appealed to citizens to immediately contact the PCMC Main Disaster Control Room at 020-67331111 or 020-28331111, or the Fire Department helpline at 7030908991 in case of any emergency.
