Pune: PMC Urges Public Not to Open Kharadi–Keshavnagar Bridge Prematurely, Says Approach Road Work to Finish in 15 Days
Pune, 30th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed to citizens not to attempt opening the Kharadi–Keshavnagar bridge for traffic before the civic body officially inaugurates it, stating that critical approach road works are still underway and opening the bridge now could pose a safety risk.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the PMC said the bridge construction is in its final stage and, once operational, will significantly improve connectivity for residents of Kharadi, Nagar Road, Keshavnagar, Mundhwa, Manjari and Hadapsar.
The civic body said work is currently underway to complete the 24-metre approach road, including shifting utilities, removing trees after obtaining the required permissions, and taking possession of a few remaining land parcels. Asphalting and other allied works on the approach road are also yet to be completed.
PMC warned that opening the bridge before the removal of trees and completion of the approach road could increase the risk of accidents.
According to the civic body, the remaining approach road work is expected to be completed within 15 days, after which the bridge can be safely opened for public use.
The clarification comes after the PMC noticed social media posts claiming that certain political organisations would open the bridge for traffic on August 1. The civic body said such a move would be inappropriate as the project is not yet ready for safe use.
The PMC has appealed to citizens to cooperate and wait until the remaining work is completed and the bridge is officially opened for traffic.
