Pune: Andharban Trek Reopens After Monsoon Closure; Online Registration Made Mandatory
Pune, 18th August 2026: The popular Andharban forest trek in Mulshi taluka has reopened for tourists after being closed for more than a month due to damage caused by a landslide. However, the Sudhagad Wildlife Sanctuary administration has imposed conditions on visitors, including mandatory online registration.
The trek was reopened in a limited and conditional manner from August 15, 2026, following safety inspections and necessary measures by the Forest Department.
The Andharban nature trail in the Pimpri range of the Sudhagad Wildlife Sanctuary was damaged following a landslide. In view of tourist safety, the trekking route had been closed since July 9.
Following an inspection of the trail, the Forest Department carried out necessary safety measures before allowing tourists to return.
According to an order issued by the Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Thane, a 2.2-kilometre one-way trekking route starting from the Andharban Check Post at Pimpri has been opened for tourists subject to certain conditions.
The sanctuary administration has made online registration mandatory for visitors. It has also clarified that tourists will not be permitted to enter the Andharban trekking route through any other access point.
Visitors have been urged to follow the prescribed rules and safety guidelines. Action will be taken against those found violating the conditions imposed by the Forest Department.
The reopening of the Andharban trek has also brought relief to local residents. An increase in tourist footfall is expected to create employment and income opportunities for local guides, tea and snack stalls, food providers and parking operators.
The reopening is therefore expected to boost not only monsoon tourism but also the local economy in villages surrounding the trekking route.
