Pune: PCMC Moves Proposal To Adjust Rs 60 Crore Allocations Amid ‘bogus’ Proposals Controversy That Led to Transfer of CFO

Pune, 16th September 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration is set to place a proposal before the standing committee on Wednesday seeking approval for adjustments in the civic budget linked to the Rs 60 crore alleged “bogus supplementary proposals” controversy.

The controversy erupted after elected representatives returned to the civic body and 14 supplementary proposals were allegedly submitted. The proposals were reportedly approved internally by the chief accounts and finance department, following which payments were made to contractors.

The PCMC general body had approved the civic budget on March 24. Standing committee chairman Abhishek Barne had complained about the alleged irregularities. Following allegations in the matter, then chief finance and accounts officer Pravin Jain was transferred.

A five-member inquiry committee headed by an additional municipal commissioner was subsequently formed to investigate the matter.

The committee submitted its report on June 12, finding that 13 of the supplementary proposals were bogus. The report stated that approval from the standing committee or general body had not been obtained for these proposals.

Municipal commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi subsequently forwarded the inquiry report to the state government’s finance department. However, no action has been taken on the report so far.

Meanwhile, the civic administration has proposed approving increases and decreases in budgetary allocations corresponding to the Rs 60 crore provisions made for payments to contractors and has recommended the changes to the general body. The proposal has now been placed before the standing committee.

The controversy had led to differences within the ruling BJP, with the party splitting into two groups over the issue. Opposition parties had demanded that a police complaint be filed in the matter.

The proposal will now come before the same standing committee whose chairman had raised the complaint, putting the focus on the decision that will be taken by Barne and other committee members.

Citizens have called for transparency in the use of public funds and accountability in the event of financial irregularities. The standing committee’s decision on the proposal is now being closely watched.
