Fake Kurash Certificate Racket: 14 Pune Police Personnel Among 25 Arrested
Pune, 28th October 2026: As many as 14 police personnel are among 25 people arrested by Pune police in a racket involving fake kurash sports certificates allegedly used to secure government jobs without participating in competitions.
The crime branch has arrested those accused of fabricating the certificates and using them to claim benefits under the sports quota. Some of the arrested accused have been sent to Yerawada Central Jail, while six others remain absconding.
The arrested police personnel include some who had joined the force and undergone training, as well as others who had been recruited but had not reported for training. One constable allegedly fled a training centre in Dhule after learning that he was likely to be named as an accused.
Investigations have also revealed that candidates allegedly used fake kurash certificates to secure jobs in other government departments. Pune police are writing to the concerned departments to initiate appropriate action against employees found to have obtained jobs fraudulently.
The racket has raised concerns over the misuse of sports quota benefits and the transparency of government recruitment, with genuine athletes potentially losing opportunities to ineligible candidates.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify others who may have secured government jobs using forged certificates. An agent allegedly linked to the case died of a heart attack before police could reach him for questioning, according to reports.
