New Delhi, 18th March 2021: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkar today informed Parliament that “93 percent of the country’s vehicles pay tolls using FASTag, but the remaining 7 percent of vehicles have not opted for FASTag despite paying double the toll.”

Gadkari said, “I want to assure that all the physical toll booths in the country will be removed within a year, i.e., the toll collection will be via GPS. The funds will be collected based on GPS imaging (on vehicles).”

He also said that he has directed a police inquiry for vehicles that do not pay tolls using FASTags. If vehicles do not fit FASTags, then the case will be filed for toll and GST theft.
