Pune, 14th May 2021: The number of patients in the second wave of Coronavirus has reached its peak in Pune and the curve of virus-infected people started flattening now in the city.

Over the past week, the city’s infection rate has hovered between 10 and 20 percent and after a long period, the number of patients have come down to 3,000 and below. However, the number of patients in rural areas reaching between 3,000 and 4,000 daily, which is creating anxiety in the rural areas.

Regarding this, the state’s technical advisor on coronavirus spread, Dr Subhash Salunkhe said that even during the first wave, the increase in the number of patients in rural areas was slower than in urban areas and the decline in rural areas started shortly after the decline in urban areas. That’s how this year’s picture is. As urban and rural areas are adjacent to each other, long-term compliance with restrictive and preventive measures is mandatory.

The city recorded an infection rate of 24 percent and below during the week of April 22-29. Between April 30 and May 5, except one day, the infection rate remained at 21 percent or less. Between May 5 and May 12, the infection rate remained between 10 and 20 percent but did not exceed 20 percent.

The rate of infection, which has stabilized after a record increase in the number of cases seen by the city of Pune in March, is reassuring. Yet it is necessary to follow the social distancing norms and wear the mask regularly. People must avoid going to crowded places. And if they feel any symptoms, then must consult with the doctor, said the officials of the municipal health department.
