A unique ‘Kalagram’ to be created under ‘Smart City

Pune, March 4, 2019 : A place that nurtures different types of arts, provides opportunity to witness and shop unique craftwork made by local artisans and to get a taste of cuisines of various states, is perfect for spending quality time with your family. Pune is soon to get such a happy family place that will encourage artists and craftsmen. An ambitious new project of a cultural hub called ‘Kalagram’ is going to be created under ‘Smart City’ near P. L. Deshpande Udyan on Sinhagad Road. This was announced by MLA Madhuri Misal.

“The tendering process for this project is started. The estimated cost of the entire ‘Kalagram’ project is going to be 10.5 to 11 Cr. Out of which, MLA Madhuri Misal’s special MLA Fund will constitute for Rs. 2 Cr, while Rs. 75 Lac is being given by MP Anil Shirole through his MP Fund and Rs. 1 Cr has been marked through the fund of Navinyapurna Yojana. This initial amount of around 3.75 to 4 Cr will facilitate the speedy start of the project”, said Madhuri Misal.

She further said, “The objective behind this project is to provide a good platform for the artists of Pune and from other places to present their art. ‘‘They will also get an opportunity to market their unique handmade articles. I was making efforts to make this project happen from last 6 to 7 years. Now it is going to be created under ‘Samrt City’. I’m assured that the work will start soon and Punekars will soon get their own ‘Kalagram.”

The design of this project is done by the very well-known Landscape Designer Shobha Bhopatkar. The famous tourist attractions in Delhi known by the name ‘Delhi Haat’ of Pritampur and Janakpuri were studied for designing Pune’s Kalagram project.

The design of Kalagram will resemble the farmer’s weekly market constituting shops set up by different artisans. In this one of its kind market, citizens will be able to watch them working on their craft and also will get an opportunity to do shopping. Kalagram will have an open theatre for the performing arts. It will also have a food court presenting cuisines from different states and a vaster area for sitting, chatting and walking.
