Accused Vedant Arrested: Another Hit-and-Run Claims Pedestrian’s Life in Pune

Wakad, May 29th, 2024: Following the tragic Porsche incident in Kalyani Nagar, where a minor allegedly intoxicated caused the deaths of two young individuals on a two-wheeler, another hit-and-run case has surfaced in Pimpri Chinchwad. A black Thar car collided with a pedestrian while he was crossing the road, resulting in the pedestrian’s demise. This incident occurred near Shani Mandir Road, the service road of the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway, in Wakad at 1:30 AM on Monday, May 27th.

Sachin Dinesh Goswami (26, resident of Navi Mumbai) filed a complaint at the Hinjewadi Police Station. The Hinjewadi Police have registered a case against the car driver, identified as Vedant Nagendra Rai (20, resident of Marunji). The deceased has been identified as Angad Shivyogya Giri (28, resident of Navi Mumbai).

According to police reports, the complainant and his deceased friend were waiting at a bus stop in front of the Indra Institute of Management to catch a bus for Mumbai. The deceased, Giri, felt an urgent need to go to the toilet and went to the back of the bus stop. While attempting to cross the service road of the Katraj Dehu Road bypass segment of the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, a black Thar with registration number MH 14 LG 7585, driven recklessly and without following traffic rules, collided with him, causing grievous injuries that resulted in his death.

Hinjewadi Police have registered a case under IPC Sections 304(A) (causing death by negligence), 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others), 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. Police Sub-Inspector Jhol from Hinjewadi Police Station is investigating the matter further.

Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiyya Thorat of Hinjawadi Police Station said, “The accident happened. We have detained the driver of the black Thar, identified as Vedant Rai. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver wasn’t drunk, and we are investigating this matter further.”
