AFMC Pune Awarded Unit Citation by Chief of Defence Staff for Exceptional Services

Pune, 18th March 2024: Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), located in Pune, was honored with a unit citation by General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), in recognition of its exceptional commitment and exemplary services rendered from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. The ceremony, held at AFMC, saw Lieutenant General Narendra Kotwal, Director & Commandant, AFMC, and Subedar Major RK Singh receiving the citation from the esteemed CDS.

The event, attended by serving and retired dignitaries from the armed forces, highlighted AFMC’s significant contributions to healthcare and medical education. Established as one of the pioneering medical colleges founded by the Armed Forces in Asia, AFMC has consistently ranked among the top three medical institutions in India. The college’s commitment to excellence was underscored by its recent accreditation with an A+ grade and a CGPA of 3.45 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

AFMC’s approach to medical education integrates traditional teaching methods with cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Precision Medicine, and Telemedicine. This integration has positioned AFMC at the forefront of medical advancements, leveraging technology to enhance healthcare practices and foster national and global medical innovations.

Renowned for its pivotal role in addressing the healthcare needs of the armed forces and the nation, AFMC received the prestigious President’s Colour on December 1, 2023, commemorating 75 years of exceptional service to the nation. Annually, over 1.5 lakh patients benefit from the college’s outstanding outpatient and inpatient healthcare services.

In addition to its clinical services, AFMC remains committed to community outreach initiatives. The college’s endeavors include healthcare services in Kasurdi Village and a Sickle Cell Screening project in the tribal population of Nandurbar District. Recent initiatives such as the Centre for Computational Medicine, Tele-Mental Health Assistance & Networking Across State (Tele-Manas) cell, and Department of Integrative Medicine further underscore AFMC’s holistic approach to healthcare education, research, and delivery.

During the ceremony, General Chauhan commended General Kotwal and the entire AFMC fraternity for their outstanding achievements and invaluable contributions to the armed forces and the nation at large.
