Pune, 30th August 2021: Maharashtra state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Chandrakant Patil today called for a state-wide agitation to demand the opening of temples.

The protests were organized by Aadhyamik Aghadi, which is the spiritual wing of BJP, and were held in Pune, Pandharpur as well as other parts of Maharashtra. Protesters agitated by ringing bells and blowing shankhs (conches).

BJP workers forcefully tried to enter the Kasba Ganpati temple but were stopped by the police.

Patil questioned the state government for allowing malls, shops, and liquor shops to open but not allowing similar relaxation for places of worship.

Patil further questioned, “Is the fear of a projected third wave of the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic doesn’t apply to liquor outlets and other shops? Does coronavirus talk to them (the government) and says it will strike only if temples are reopened ?”
