Pune, 31st March 2022: The All India Chess Federation for Blind (AICFB) and the Rotary Club of Pune Heritage are jointly hosting the ‘Sava Herbals AICFB National Chess Championship for Visually Challenged’ at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana between April 5th and 9th. AICFB is affiliated to International Braille Chess Association (IBCA), the All India Chess Federation (Recognized by the Government of India) and FIDE World Chess Federation.
This is one of the biggest national Chess Championship for the visually challenged in India. Top 52 players from various cities of the country shall come to participate in this tournament. All of them have been qualified due to their performance at the state and zonal level championships. The winner of this tournament is declared as the National Champion. The toppers in this tournament from the Men, Women and Under 19 category represent India during the upcoming international tournaments.
This 9 round championship shall be conducted on a Swiss League basis. Two rounds per day with four hours each as timing. It will be played according to the FIDE and IBCA rules. The organizers shall also provide accommodation to the participating players, teachers and coaches. The total prize money of the tournament is Rs.1.5 Lakh.
The All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) is a nonprofit organization and a public trust registered under the Indian Society Trust and the Bombay Public Trusts Act 1950, concerned with upliftment and development of the blind and visually challenged through the game of the Chess for the past 24 years.
The AICFB has been given official reorganization by the AICF (Apex Chess Body Recognized by the Government of India) and International Braille Chess Association (Apex World Chess Body for Blind and Visually Impaired). These recognitions have allowed AICFB to give opportunities to blind and visually impaired players to express their talent and abilities at the state, national and international level championships. Through these affiliations, AICFB integrates the blind chess players with the rest of the world.
