Airports on Alert: Double Checking Before Flight Boarding, Visitor Entry Banned Across India

New Delhi, 8th May 2025: In a significant move to bolster aviation safety amid rising national security concerns, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued a directive to all airlines and airports across India to enhance security protocols with immediate effect.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation sources, all passengers at airports will now undergo Secondary Ladder Point Checks (SLPC) before boarding flights. This additional layer of screening, conducted just before entering the aircraft, aims to ensure no unauthorized or suspicious items are carried onboard.
In a related measure, visitor entry to terminal buildings has been completely banned until further notice. Only ticketed passengers will be allowed to enter terminal premises, and they must adhere to the updated security protocols.
The sources further said that Air Marshals will be deployed as per the threat perception, adding an extra level of security on selected domestic and international flights.
“In view of an order by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security on enhanced measures at airports, passengers across India are advised to arrive at their respective airports at least three hours prior to scheduled departure to ensure smooth check-in and boarding. Check-in closes 75 mins before departure”, states an advisory issued by the Air India.
The instructions from BCAS come amid heightened alert across several states following increased military tension between India and Pakistan. Authorities have emphasized that these are preventive steps and urged the public to cooperate with security personnel for smoother operations.
Passengers are advised to arrive early at airports, expect stricter checks, and follow all instructions issued by airport authorities.
