Pune, June 17, 2020: Amid the standoff between the Indian military and the Chinese PLA regarding the border areas and construction projects in the Eastern Ladakh region, a train carrying 1,600 workers from Jharkhand for Border Roads Organization (BRO) projects in Ladakh reached Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. They will now soon leave for Leh and beyond.
The first train which was carrying 1,600 workers from Jharkhand had left on June 14 and reached Udhampur yesterday. Their journey doesn’t stop there, they will further go on to work for BRO projects along the Sino-Indian border.
The standoff between the armies has been going on since May 5. The differences have arisen due to the construction work by the Indian government in the Galwan river valley region. The Chinese have objected to this construction work within the Indian territory. This standoff has resulted in the death of three Indian soldiers along the Sino-Indian border and other casualties on both sides.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren agreed with the BRO for the induction of 11,815 workers and guarantee the protection of the rights of workers and their welfare. These workers and labourers will now work on projects like ‘Operation Vijayak’ and ‘Himank’ in Ladakh. Numerous other projects like this will be carried out in Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and other border areas.
