Asia’s Largest Hospital to Be Built in Pune in Memory of Lata Mangeshkar
Pune, 1st October 2025: Pune is set to become home to Asia’s largest hospital, which will be built in memory of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. The announcement was made by veteran musician Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar during the ‘Mee Lata Dinanath’ program held on the occasion of Lata Mangeshkar’s 96th birth anniversary.
The hospital will be constructed on 40 acres of land in Pune and will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and modern healthcare services. “Lata Didi planted saplings named Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital to commemorate Baba’s work. Now it has been expanded greatly. Next year, Asia’s largest hospital will be built in the name of Didi. All kinds of modern services and facilities will be provided in this hospital,” Hridaynath Mangeshkar said.
The event was attended by Cultural Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, MP Medha Kulkarni, veteran singer Usha Mangeshkar, and others.
Shelar praised the role of Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, medical director of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, saying, “Even during the time of allegations against Mangeshkar Hospital, Dr. Kelkar performed brilliantly. He did not make a single mistake in his work.” He further lauded the Mangeshkar family’s cultural contribution, calling Lata Mangeshkar “the cultural ambassador of the nation.”
Hridaynath Mangeshkar also acknowledged the support of MP Medha Kulkarni, noting that “many criticized Mangeshkar Hospital, but Kulkarni came forward and presented our side.” Responding, Kulkarni said, “Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital did not do anything wrong, which is why I stood by them.”
