Pune, 17th November 2025: Cold weather gripped Pune on Tuesday as Shivajinagar—the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) official city observatory—recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4°C, marking the season’s first single-digit reading. IMD data also showed six other monitoring stations across the district reporting minimum temperatures between 6°C and 9°C.

The sharp drop in temperature brought chilly mornings and foggy conditions to several parts of Pune during early morning and late-night hours. However, it has also contributed to worsening air quality, particularly near major traffic junctions in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology’s (IITM) Air Quality Early Warning System, Pune’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at a moderate 159. Station-wise, Shivajinagar (229) and Wakad (246) fell in the “poor” category, while Lohegaon (158), Nigdi (139), Katraj Dairy (157), SPPU Chowk (108), Gavalinagar (156), and Thergaon (165) remained in the “moderate” range, indicating a citywide deterioration.

Pune’s minimum temperatures have been steadily declining since November 6 due to strengthening cold northerly winds across Maharashtra. Shivajinagar, which recorded 18.6°C on November 6, gradually fell to 10.2°C by November 17, before dipping into single digits on Tuesday.

“There will be no significant fall in minimum or nighttime temperatures in Maharashtra from November 18 onwards,” said Anupam Kashyapi, former head of IMD Pune’s Weather and Forecasting Division.

Within the district, Haveli recorded the lowest minimum at 6.9°C, while Girivan in Mulshi tehsil logged 16.5°C and Wadgaon Sheri 15.8°C.
