Three Traffic Violations and Your Driving Licence Is Gone: Pune Divisional Commissioner
Pune, 18th November 2025: Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar on Monday announced a strict citywide crackdown on traffic violations, ordering that offenders be fined, have their driving licences suspended after three repeated violations, and face vehicle seizure if offences persist. He also directed the district collector to conduct mandatory monthly reviews on road safety and ensure that all pending corrective measures are implemented without delay.
The instructions follow the major accident at Navale Bridge on November 13, which highlighted road safety concerns along the route.
Speaking at the meeting, Pulkundwar said, “There is a need for strict enforcement. Every agency must act decisively to prevent accidents. Responsibility for road conditions lies with the agency managing it, and the district magistrate has the authority to take necessary action.”
He also asked the NGO SaveLife Foundation to conduct a fresh, detailed study of the accident-prone stretch between the New Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge, in coordination with all government departments. Piyush Tiwari, CEO of SaveLife Foundation, confirmed, “We will submit the updated report in two weeks.”
The council hall meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Pune Municipal Commissioner, PMRDA chief, district collector, PMPML CMD, additional police commissioner, and NHAI project director.
Police officials said they have requested additional manpower from the state government, while PMC is deploying traffic wardens at major construction and work sites. The PMRDA highlighted the urgent need for action at identified blackspots, and the collector emphasized the establishment of an integrated traffic control centre for Pune to improve monitoring and enforcement.
