Pune, 28th July 2023: Maharashtra State Electricity Distirbution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has issued a notice to its customers regarding the payment of security deposits. The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has allowed MSEDCL to revise its security deposit policy, requiring customers to pay an average security deposit equivalent to two months of their annual electricity bill. Previously, customers were required to pay only one month’s security deposit. The new policy was implemented in 2021 under the Supply Code Act.

MSEDCL has now urged its customers to pay the remaining one month’s security deposit as per the revised guidelines. The customers who have not yet paid the outstanding amount are requested to do so within a 6-month installment period. The interest on the security deposit, as determined by the Reserve Bank of India, will have to be paid to MSEDCL and adjusted in the customer’s bill by the end of March.

It is essential for customers to comply with this requirement, as failure to do so may result in disconnection of power supply. MSEDCL will issue a notice with a 30-day grace period to those customers who have not paid the remaining security amount. After the notice period expires, the power supply may be disconnected.
