Autorickshaw Union Leader Advocates For Shared Rickshaws To Enhance Last Mile Connectivity With Pune Metro

Pune, 2nd August 2023: Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, the head of ‘Baghtoy Rickshaw Wala,’ emphasized the need for shared autorickshaws in the context of the Pune Metro project during a meeting convened by the Pune Deputy-Regional Transport Officer. He highlighted the crucial role rickshaw drivers can play in ensuring last mile connectivity with the metro.
As the Pune Metro project progresses in full swing, the integration of rickshaw services becomes essential to achieve the goal of seamless connectivity for commuters. In cities like Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, where a significant number of the working class commute daily for employment opportunities, shared rickshaws offer an economical transport option.
Kshirsagar proposed that by establishing proper coordination between the metro stations and rickshaw services and providing adequate manpower for efficient management, shared rickshaws could prove to be a highly successful mode of transportation for the last mile. He emphasized the importance of the administration taking on the responsibility of managing the operations and cracking down on seat trafficking mafias to ensure smooth implementation.
Kshirsagar expressed the rickshaw-drivers union’s commitment to contributing to the Pune Metro project by providing affordable transportation solutions to low and middle-income passengers. With the administration’s support and proactive measures to address challenges, shared rickshaws can significantly enhance last mile connectivity and ease the commuting burden for the masses.
