Pune, 14th January 2026: The Indian construction sector generates a significant volume of surplus and unused building material every year due to over-ordering, design changes, stalled projects and site closures. Items such as tiles, sanitaryware, plywood, fittings and hardware often remain unused and eventually end up occupying warehouse space or being dumped in landfills.

Addressing this challenge, Pune-based platform Bikrri has emerged as a surplus material listing solution aimed at enabling the reuse of construction materials while reducing waste and improving resource efficiency.

Bikrri functions as a digital listing platform where builders, manufacturers, dealers and warehouses can list unused or slow-moving construction inventory in a transparent manner. The initiative helps sellers liquidate dead stock, recover blocked working capital and reduce storage burden without resorting to unorganised or distress-sale channels.

“Bikrri is created to ensure that usable construction materials are reused responsibly instead of becoming landfill waste, making sustainability practical and affordable for everyone by simply listing materials systematically,” said Ar. Shweta Relekar, founder of Bikrri.

Unlike traditional resale models, the platform operates without commission-driven mark-ups, enabling quicker movement of inventory at fair market prices, according to the founders.

On the demand side, Bikrri caters to contractors, architects, interior designers and individual homeowners who often seek quality materials at lower costs. By directly connecting buyers with surplus stock, the platform offers access to unused branded materials at prices significantly lower than prevailing market rates, while maintaining transparency in pricing and availability.

Construction waste remains a major environmental concern, contributing to landfill pressure, pollution and excessive consumption of natural resources. Bikrri’s reuse-driven approach aims to reduce construction waste while lowering demand for new material production and supporting environmentally responsible building practices.

The platform promotes a circular construction model, where surplus materials are redistributed and reused instead of discarded. This approach not only offers economic benefits to businesses but also contributes to sustainability goals by conserving raw materials and reducing embodied energy.

“Even small-scale, city-level reuse of construction materials can divert large quantities of waste from landfills every year,” Shweta Relekar added, noting that such practices help reduce environmental strain while making quality materials more accessible to buyers.

Currently operating from Pune, Bikrri aims to develop a city-led model for surplus material reuse that aligns with circular economy principles. As urban construction activity continues to expand across India, initiatives like Bikrri highlight how sustainability can be integrated into routine business operations within the construction ecosystem.
