Pune, 13th November 2023: In a startling revelation, the birth certificate of a child was illicitly altered by accessing the software at the Pune Municipal Corporation’s head office of birth and death registration in Kasba Peth.

The complaint, filed by the child’s father in January 2023, exposed an unauthorized change in the child’s name from “Vedant” to “Mohammed,” along with the omission of the father’s name. After 11 months, the municipal administration has officially filed a complaint with the Faraskhana Police Station.

On January 30, 2023, a doctor from Amritsar utilized WhatsApp to file a complaint, exposing the unauthorized modification in his son Vedant Mehan Gupta’s birth certificate, which had been issued just two days prior on January 28, 2023. Subsequent investigations by the cyber police, as of September 4, 2023, revealed that the alteration was orchestrated by an individual with access to the birth and death office’s ID, suggesting potential involvement of office staff or their relatives.

Following discussions with Account Head Dr. Kalpana Baliwant, Additional Commissioner Ravindra Binwade, and Regional Officer Dr. Sujata Mane, the municipal administration officially complained to the Faraskhana Police Station on November 9, 2023.

A case has been registered against an unknown person, and the cyber police suspect that if further unauthorized changes occur, the situation could escalate. According to officials, the access to the birth and death registration software system is restricted to office staff, suggesting potential involvement from within the office.

Further investigation is going on.
