CBI ARRESTS A DIVISIONAL ENGINEER OF CENTRAL RAILWAY IN A BRIBERY CASE

        The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Divisional Engineer, CST, Central Railway, Mumbai for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.20,000/- from the complainant.
         A case was registered on a complaint U/s 120-B of IPC r/w Section 7 of PC Act, 1988 and substantive offences. It was alleged that a Divisional Engineer and a Draughtsman, both working in Central Railway, Mumbai demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.40,000/- for issuance of NOC with regard to land. Later on, the Divisional Engineer agreed to accept Rs.20,000/- as initial payment and the remaining amount at the time of issuance of NOC. The Draughtsman also demanded a bribe for visiting the site. CBI laid a trap and caught the Divisional Engineer red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs.20,000/-.
         Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of deposit receipts showing investment of over Rs.One crore(approx); Gold jewellery 1 kg (approx); documents relating to purchase of 3 flats & a piece of land and locker key.
         The arrested accused was produced before the Competent Court at Mumbai and remanded to Police Custody till 27.02.2017.
