Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th August 2026: The Pune district administration has drawn up a time-bound action plan to address traffic congestion, poor road conditions, parking, encroachments, power supply and other infrastructure issues in the Chakan industrial belt.

The decisions were taken at a coordination meeting chaired by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. Senior officials from multiple government agencies were assigned specific responsibilities and deadlines to ensure coordinated implementation of the measures.

The meeting was attended by MLA Babaji Kale, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey and officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra State Industrial Development Corporation (MSIDC), Public Works Department (PWD), Nagar Parishad, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Zilla Parishad and other departments.

A special committee headed by the District Collector and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner has been constituted following directions from the Chief Minister to coordinate the resolution of issues in the Chakan industrial area. The committee includes officials from MIDC, MSIDC, NHAI, PMRDA, PWD, local administration, Zilla Parishad, revenue and police departments.
Roads to be pothole-free by August 31
Officials have been directed to complete repairs of potholes and damaged road shoulders on all major roads in the Chakan industrial area by August 31.

The administration has warned that responsibility will be fixed on the concerned competent authorities, engineers and contractors in case of delays, and action will be taken as per rules.
Roadside parking to be prohibited from Friday
Roadside parking of heavy vehicles has been identified as one of the major causes of congestion in the Chakan industrial belt. The administration has decided to use available open spaces in the MIDC area for vehicle parking.

Available spaces from Talegaon towards the Bhandara Dongar area will be planned and utilised for parking.

From Friday, parking of vehicles on roads in the designated area will be completely prohibited. Vehicles violating the rule may be seized and legal action initiated under a proposed “zero tolerance” approach.
100 MSF personnel for traffic management
Considering the large geographical spread of the Chakan industrial area, 100 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel will be made available to the police for traffic management.

The personnel will work in two shifts to support traffic regulation and reduce the pressure on the existing police force.

A heavy-duty crane will also be deployed to remove vehicles that break down on roads and cause congestion. Such vehicles will be shifted immediately to the roadside or designated locations.
Encroachments to be removed within a month
Authorities have been directed to prepare a list of unauthorised roadside stalls, tea shops, warehouses and other encroachments in the Chakan industrial area.

Notices will be issued to the concerned parties, followed by an encroachment removal drive beginning August 25 and continuing over the subsequent month.

After encroachments are removed, the concerned agencies have been instructed to immediately develop roads or other required infrastructure at the cleared locations.

Collector Jitendra Dudi said a “zero tolerance” approach would be followed and that no encroachment would be excluded from action for political or other reasons.
AI-based traffic management planned
A comprehensive plan is being prepared for approximately 500 kilometres of roads in the Chakan area. Authorities are also considering the use of artificial intelligence and advanced traffic simulation technology for future traffic management.

The entire area is proposed to be brought under CCTV surveillance, with monitoring and management through the Command and Control Centre of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate.

The system is expected to provide real-time information on traffic congestion, accidents and vehicle breakdowns, enabling authorities to respond more quickly.
Pedestrian safety to get priority
Future road development in the Chakan industrial area will include storm-water drainage, footpaths and pedestrian crossings at appropriate locations.

The administration has given particular emphasis to pedestrian safety following fatalities in road accidents in the area in recent months.

Officials have also been directed to close unauthorised divider cuts on national highways. Since unauthorised U-turns can slow traffic and increase the risk of accidents, entry and turning points will be permitted only at designated locations as per regulations.
Power supply issues to be addressed
The meeting also reviewed frequent power tripping and load-shedding in the industrial area.

The government has approved the allocation of necessary land within the MIDC area for transformers and other electrical infrastructure. The related works are planned to be completed by August 31.

The administration has set a longer-term target of resolving the problems of frequent tripping and load-shedding in the industrial area after December 31.
Traffic plan mandatory before infrastructure work
Several agencies, including NHAI, MSIDC and the Railways, are expected to undertake infrastructure projects in the area.

Before such work begins, the concerned departments will be required to assess its impact on traffic and prepare alternative routes, traffic diversion arrangements and traffic simulation studies. Permission to commence work will be granted only after these arrangements are examined.

The meeting was also informed that the tendering process has begun for a proposed approximately 28-kilometre elevated road from Nashik Phata towards the Chakan side. The project is expected to provide long-term relief to traffic in the industrial belt.
Police to provide manpower support
Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey said the meeting, held following the Chief Minister’s directions, discussed various issues affecting the Chakan industrial area and outlined short-, medium- and long-term measures.

He said repairs to potholes and road shoulders, parking arrangements on available open land, police deployment for encroachment removal and closure of unauthorised divider cuts would help improve traffic movement.

“Necessary police manpower will be made available immediately whenever requested by the concerned agencies,” Choubey said.

He added that the meeting had also discussed the use of artificial intelligence and traffic simulation for improving traffic management.
Collector Jitendra Dudi expressed confidence that visible improvements would be seen in the coming days in accordance with the deadlines fixed for various measures.

He also appealed to the media to monitor the implementation of the measures and provide objective feedback so that necessary corrections could be made promptly.
